Update: Notice of Abandonment of Structure Plan Review (PDF,16kb)

At local government re-organisation in 1996, new structure plan areas were established throughout Scotland. Edinburgh and the Lothians structure plan area coincides with the Lothian area covered by the now superseded 1994 Structure Plan. Responsibility for preparing the structure plan passed from the former Lothian Regional Council to the four Councils: The City of Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian:

These four Councils have established joint working arrangements in order to produce the Edinburgh and Lothians Structure Plan 2015 and details of the remit and organisational arrangements of the Joint Structure Plan Liaison Committee can be found on this web site.

Update: The Scottish Ministers on 25 June 2008 designated the Edinburgh and South East Scotland Strategic Development Planning Authority; comprising City of Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian, Fife, Scottish Borders and West Lothian Councils (SESplan). The role of SESplan is to produce a strategic Development Plan which will supersede the councils' existing Structure Plans in due course.
