Joint Liaison Committee
The main role of the Joint Structure Plan Liaison Committee is to consider land use and transportation issues of joint concern or interest especially where they relate to the Edinburgh and Lothians Structure Plan and to agree programmes of joint working. The Committee also has a role to consider development proposals including planning applications and local plan policies which raise strategic planning issues of relevance to more than one authority or which appear to conflict significantly with the Structure Plan.
The Committee comprises 3 elected members, plus appropriate officers from each Council. The Committee meets on a quarterly cycle although special meetings can be convened in exceptional circumstances.
A Heads of Planning Officers Forum, with representatives from all of the planning authorities, meets regularly to provide professional support to the Committee and to submit jointly agreed reports and recommendations. In addition, Heads of Planning of each authority have the right to submit individual reports and recommendations to the Liaison Committee.
