Interim Edinburgh and South East Scotland Strategic Development Plan Joint Committee
The role of the Interim Edinburgh and South East Scotland Strategic Development Plan Joint Committee is to consider strategic planning issues of joint interest, particularly those related to strategic planning and preparing for joint working on a Strategic Development Plan for the Edinburgh city region.
The Committee comprises 12 members appointed from the constituent authorities (City of Edinburgh Council, East Lothian Council, Midlothian Council, West Lothian Council, Scottish Borders Council, and Fife Council). Two members represent each council. The committee exists as a separate entity to the ELSP Joint Liaison Committee.
The Joint Committee is advisory only. Its decisions are not binding on the constituent authorities but its advice and recommendations should be considered by the constituent authorities when making their own decisions.
An officers steering group, with representatives from all of the planning authorities, meets regularly to provide professional support to the Committee and to submit jointly agreed reports and recommendations. In addition, Directors of each authority have the right to submit individual reports and recommendations to the Joint Committee.
